Citizens Bank Foundation

Recognizing the WorkPlace’s continued commitment to addressing community needs, Citizens Bank Foundation has provided support for the Health Career Academy.

The Health Career Academy Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Career Path program directly addresses barriers to social equity that women face during a search for employment.

The Academy provides occupational training, work readiness, and additional support to individuals seeking to begin or advance a career in healthcare. Training leads to a certificate or degree and prepares participants to pass a state or national licensing exam.

The Academy also helps individuals overcome barriers to their success by providing Career Support Services such as assistance with childcare and transportation while in training, assistance with immunizations or other medical needs for training/employment, and access to work-appropriate clothing, all available at no cost.

In the Health Care Academy and all programs of The WorkPlace we strive to advance diversity and social equity in the communities we serve and are fortunate to partner with like-minded donors such as Citizens who support these goals as well.

MAKING AN IMPACT

The Frederick A. Deluca Foundation

For more than a decade, The WorkPlace, through its Platform to Employment (P2E) programs, has helped thousands of job seekers find the support and services needed to return to work. Throughout the years P2E has grown to support specific populations of workers including returning citizens and veterans.

Seeking to address the needs of the 51,000 youth ages 18-26 who have been identified as disconnected from educational and employment systems in a report by the Boston Consulting Group, commissioned by the Dalio Foundation, The WorkPlace has tailored its successful P2E program to help at-risk and disconnected youth achieve economic self-sufficiency.  In early August, The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation became a significant partner in this impactful work, providing a generous $1.5 million grant to help serve hundreds of youths across Connecticut.

Over the next two years, our goal is to guide 250 young adults through training and career exploration and toward securing meaningful employment. Industry demand in Connecticut remains strong: according to the August 2025 Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey from the U.S. Department of Labor, there are more than 82,000 open positions across the state. This underscores a critical mismatch: many jobs are available, but the workforce is not ready. Each individual success story from this program will bring the state one step closer to closing this employment gap.

Youth that become disconnected from education and workforce systems are not a lost cause. They are our neighbors, our future colleagues, our children’s peers. Many face significant challenges — poverty, trauma, housing instability — but they also bring potential, perspective, and resilience. We are committed to meeting them where they are by creating on-ramps to the workforce that reflect today’s realities. Philanthropic investment plays a critical role in making this happen. The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation understands that solving complex social and economic challenges requires private-sector leadership and community collaboration. Their support for P2E Youth is more than a grant; it is a belief in what is possible when we work together.
