(Bridgeport, CT.) – June 28, 2016

The WorkPlace Annual Awards Ceremony celebrates the accomplishments of outstanding students, graduates, employers, volunteers and professionals from programs that The WorkPlace administers. The Ceremony also recognizes the work of business organizations that best promote diversity and growth.

Each year, The WorkPlace recognizes a foundation that demonstrates a commitment to supporting the community through its financial support, making possible the launch of new projects or the expansion of existing ones. At the annual ceremony on Thursday, June 23, The Philanthropic Leadership Award was presented to People’s United Community Foundation.

“We are proud to present the Philanthropy Leadership Award to Peoples United Community Foundation,” said Joseph Carbone, President & CEO of The WorkPlace. “Their philanthropy has been outstanding and it is a reflection of those at the helm of both the foundation and the bank. The foundation is a true partner in the community.”

Through its financial commitments, People’s United Community Foundation helps make the community stronger, more vibrant and sustainable. Its mission is to invest in programs and services that enhance the quality of life for residents, promote the economic development and well-being of neighborhoods and support the educational and developmental needs of children and youth, with special emphasis given to programs and services in low income areas. In particular, Peoples United Community Foundation is committed to supporting community development, youth development and affordable housing initiatives.

Accepting the award on behalf of People’s United Community Foundation was Director Karen Galbo and Armando Goncalves, President Southern Connecticut, Peoples United Bank. “People’s United Bank and the People’s United Community Foundation are pleased and honored to accept The WorkPlace Diversity and Philanthropic Leadership awards,” said Goncalves. “Organizations that provide innovative workplace development programs serving a diverse and willing population of workers ultimately serve all of us and our shared economy. We thank you for this recognition and we are proud to remain a steadfast partner in these efforts.”
