In celebration of local veterans, veteran organizations, and veteran employers

In preparation of Veteran’s Day, the fourth annual “Service to Country and Community” Awards will take place on Wednesday, November 9th at Port 5 Naval Veterans in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The event is organized by The WorkPlace and a planning committee of representatives from Connecticut Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Connecticut Department of Labor, Alpha Community Services, Housatonic Community College, and Port 5 Naval Veterans. We are pleased to announce the following awardees:

• Mike Kellett, of Shelton, CT who served in the U.S. Navy from 1982-1986 and remains involved in several veteran’s organizations and initiatives in the community;
• Rivers of Recovery, for the organization’s innovative approach to build self-confidence and independence in wounded combat veterans suffering from PTSD and depression;
• Northeast Tree Service, for their commitment to hiring veterans and organizing events to fundraise for various veteran initiatives.

The “Service to Country and Community” Awards will take place on place on Wednesday, November 9th at Port 5 Naval Veterans, 69 Brewster Street in Bridgeport, Connecticut with the ceremony beginning at 5:30pm.
