Pursue GED, Construction Skills and Certifications

The WorkPlace is recruiting Bridgeport youth, 18-24 years of age for a new program called YouthBuild Bridgeport. The program is run by the YouthWorks division of The WorkPlace and funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor. YouthBuild Bridgeport is a partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County, Park City Communities and community organizations.

YouthBuild Bridgeport includes assistance to pursue a GED, construction skills and industry recognized certifications. Employment and post-secondary placement assistance are also available with follow up supports provided to graduates for one year following program completion. The program offers transportation assistance, a small stipend to earn-as-you-learn, and a fully loaded iPad to use and keep, along with construction tools upon completion.

Youth interested in participating in YouthBuild can attend an orientation program on Thursday, February 16, at 11 a.m. The orientation will be held in the offices of YouthWorks located at 238 Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport. Youth may also apply online by visiting www.workplace.org/applications/ and selecting the YouthWorks application.
