STAMFORD – An express Department of Motor Vehicles office has opened in Stamford.

The new building is located at 137 Henry St.

Officials say the express DMV will provide customers with increased opportunities to renew driver’s licenses and identification cards and will be open five days a week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The DMV will be privately operated by the state’s partner, The WorkPlace. It will also be upgrading its online services to help customers avoid an unpleasant experience.

“I would argue DMVs across the country face the same bad rap so to speak,” says DMV Commissioner Michael Bzdyra. “But we’re doing everything we can through these third-party relationships to make sure that we provide as many convenient locations for our own customers so they don’t feel they have to go to a hub office in Norwalk or Danbury or Bridgeport.”

Earlier this year, the DMV opened express offices in Milford and West Haven, and is planning to open more in North Haven and Southington.

There is an $8 convenience fee at this location.
