Apprenticeships combine a full-time job with training—and prepare workers to enter in-demand careers.

ApprenticeshipWorks provides training to address the shortage of skilled workers in the manufacturing and healthcare sectors, and prepares workers to enter apprenticeships and employment. The program creates pipelines for high school students and adults. Trainees receive access to career coaching and exploration, workforce readiness training, resume, interview, and job search assistance, occupational training and certifications as well as supportive services at no-cost.

Training programs available include:

Manufacturing:

Introduction to Manufacturing – Adults (8 weeks)
Introduction to Manufacturing – In School Youth (14 weeks)
Introduction to CNC Machining – Adults (8 weeks)

Healthcare:

Community Health Worker – In School Youth and Adults (10 weeks)
Peer Recovery Specialist – Adults (6 weeks)
Patient Care Tech – In School Youth and Adults (17 weeks)

Why An Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeship programs provide a non-traditional pathway to a career in a skilled trade. You actually earn while you learn. Apprentices perform real work on real construction projects – hands on work. You can avoid thousands of dollars in college loans, work and earn a paycheck during training. Apprentices are paid on a graduated scale as their skill and experience increases.

ApprenticeshipWorks is funded by grants awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration and the CT Department of Labor’s Apprenticeship Connecticut Initiative. 

The total cost of ApprenticeshipWorks is $4.1 million over 4 years. $1.9 million (45%) is funded through the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration’s Youth Apprenticeship Readiness Grant. The other 2.2 million is funded by the CT Department of Labor’s Apprenticeship Connecticut Initiative Grant.
