Bridgeport, CT – September 29, 2021

The WorkPlace announces the launch of a “Pop-Up” American Job Center (AJC) in response to the employment needs of jobseekers loosing federal unemployment benefits.  According to the Department of Labor, Connecticut has about 125,000 weekly filers, all of whom will be impacted by the expiration of the $300 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation supplement.  Additionally, 11,000 claimants will have their benefits end when Connecticut triggers off the federal High Extended Benefits program on September 11, 2021.

This fall, the new Pop-Up AJC will visit different communities throughout southwest Connecticut, creating a one-stop opportunity for people to access information on employment services, job training, rental assistance, energy assistance and childcare.  No appointment is needed and there is no cost to receive services.  This Pop-Up AJC in Bridgeport is made possible through a partnership that includes The WorkPlace, Connecticut Department of Labor, Career Resources, the City of Bridgeport, Alliance for Community Empowerment and Unite CT.

This collaboration is a holistic approach to serving the needs of the community.  Press are invited to join us for a brief opening ceremony for this inaugural Pop-Up AJC located at McLevy Green during the weekly farmers market.
