The WorkPlace acts as a convenor, a catalyst, a collaborator, and an advocate for workforce development throughout Southwestern Connecticut and beyond. The WorkPlace’s focus has always been “lifelong learning”, working with employers to train their employees. We offer customized job training services and incentives for specific high-growth sectors and for improving the skills and opportunities of workers.

STEP UP Program

Subsidized Training and Employment Program
Promote job creation and worker opportunity for Connecticut small businesses and unemployed workers.
• An initiative of the CT DOL and regional partners
• Subsidized Training and Employment Program – $5 million per year for two years
• Small Manufacturer Training Grant Program – $5 million per year for two years
• Both programs apply to “new hires”
• Eligible small businesses can only utilize one program for each eligible new hire

RFP: Incumbent Worker Training Program

On November 16, 2011, The WorkPlace, Inc. announced the availability of approximately $87,984 in grant funds from the State of Connecticut for innovative approaches to developing a well trained workforce.  The WorkPlace seeks employers in Manufacturing, Healthcare, Science Technology Engineering & Math (STEM) and Green related industries to apply.  Awards will fall within the range of $10,000 to $20,000.  Businesses will receive payment for training expenses on a cost-reimbursement basis.

This initiative is a strategic effort to prepare workers and businesses for new and challenging opportunities.  Grant funds awarded under this program should be used to develop employee training solutions that address workforce challenges in Southwestern Connecticut.  All funds for training programs must be allocated by May 31, 2012 and training completed by June 30, 2012.
