The WorkPlace is calling on the community to nominate a veteran who honorably served the nation and continues to add to the quality of the community. This is an opportunity to acknowledge an outstanding individual that may typically go unrecognized. The selected individual will be honored at the 5th Annual Veterans Day Service to Country and Community Awards. Additionally we will recognize a company that has excelled in supporting the veteran community beyond simply having a veteran on the payroll. Nominations are also sought for non-profits, chartered organizations, or groups of veterans who have worked to improve the lives of other veterans.
Past recipients of the Awards include an educator who went on to become a school principal, a telecommunications company that prioritizes hiring local veterans and a non-profit that works with veterans suffering from PTSD.
The selection committee will consist of representatives from Port 5 Naval Veterans, Alpha Community Services YMCA, The WorkPlace’s Valor Programs and the Connecticut Department of Labor’s Office for Veteran’s Workforce Development. The criteria of selecting awardees will include military history and contributions to civic activities and community initiatives.
The event will be held on November 2nd at Port 5 Naval Veterans located in Bridgeport, CT.
