FREE COMMUNITY EVENT TO INCREASE HEALTH AWARENESS
Bridgeport, Connecticut (October 29, 2016) — The Health Career Academy, a program of The WorkPlace, brings the 2016 Healthier You Resource Fair to Bridgeport. The fair is an opportunity for the community to access information about healthcare and wellness at no cost. The fair will feature free health screenings, food, nutrition and fitness tips, children’s activities and a host of interactive programs. The fair will be held at Cesar Batalla School, 606 Howard Avenue, Bridgeport on Saturday, October 29th between 11am – 3pm.
The Health Career Academy is located in Bridgeport on Fairfield Avenue and helps unemployed and low income residents begin careers in the health care industry. The resource fair is an opportunity to provide the community with resources needed to improve health and prevent disease. Additionally the event will increase awareness of available health services in the greater Bridgeport area.

The Healthier You Resource Fair is a community effort. Many volunteers will donate their time and expertise to manage booths, run screening tests and provide support and peace of mind to people with health concerns.
Some highlights from planned activities include:
- Dozens of vendors will share important health and wellness information.
- 9 free programs will run between the main stage and gym including a Healthy Smoothie Demonstration (11:30am), Zumba and Yoga classes (11:30am and 2:00pm), Dental At-Home Care Classes (12:10pm and 1:15pm) and a Posture Workshop (12:30pm).
- St. Vincent’s Medical Center’s Mobile Mammography Coach will be on site as well as Bridgeport Hospital providing information regarding blood pressure, stroke prevention and other health concerns.
- Arts for Healing providing information on music & art therapy for those with special needs.
- American Cancer Society sharing cancer prevention information
- Nutrition and Health Tips along with free healthy recipes
- Free giveaways for people while supplies last.
Additionally children’s activities will be available including face painting, balloon art and Children’s Zumba (1:10pm) among other activities.
